Respironics Cough Assist

This video is of Shartrina and I using the cough assist to clear my lungs.  I credit the cough assist for keeping me in good health, and free of the chronic pneumonia that plagues ALS patients living on a vent.

I first learned of the cough assist from another vent patient who saw I was using a suction catheter to clear my lungs. The suction catheter was uncomfortable and ineffective.  Once I started using the cough assist my pneumonia disappeared and I felt immeasurably better.  Using the cough assist is simple and pain free.  I use it twice a day or more if necessary.

Cough assist is manufactured by Respironics.  You can find more information on their website.

Using the Computer

Matt currently uses  Smartnav Naturalpoint it is a hands free mouse solution.  As long as he has some control of his head, he can continue to use it to do everything on the computer that you and I can.  Obviously our concern is how long he will continue to have control of his head.  We are constantly looking for the technology to catch up with his needs to communicate.

Here’s a video of him using the computer.

    Matt,
This is some great info you are putting on here. Watched all the videos and learned a lot. I’m the media guy for EasyStand so I really liked the standing vid. So you used to sell radio? I also sold the air for several years. Wanna buy a spot? Your wife is not only very sharp but shes also strong. She makes transfers look easy. God bless you both and I hope to fish with you someday.

Where did u get this piece of equipment n how much? My mother in law has ALS and is unable to stand. She goes from lying down in hospital bed to sitting in her chair all day! Often complains of back pain that brings her to tears. I would love to get everything possible to make her more comfortable. Everything so expensive!!! Ty

Greetings! Quick question that’s completely off topic.
Do you know how to make your site mobile friendly?
My site looks weird when browsing from my iphone4. I’m trying to find a theme or plugin that might
be able to fix this problem. If you have any recommendations, please share.

    Many thanks!
